Soda Springs to Thayne. Diane did not sleep very well in Soda Springs, because the pillows were encased in plastic (crazy!) They actually crunched. But the day was a truly great ride, ending at a nice motel room with very nice pillows, and (wait for it) a fine Mexican dinner! The 63.6 mile ride began with a climb to Henry (elevation 6138), a town of historical importance – well at least Henry’s Store is of historical importance. To us, Henry was important because we left Soda Springs on empty tummies, and two hours later, we were cold and hungry but found a little café within the Cedar View Marina, RV Park & Café. A good breakfast fueled us for the continuing climb to and beyond Wayan (elevation 6440), which included a minor chain malfunction on Rob’s bike. When we reached the summit (elevation 6845), we took a brief repast. But together, the mechanical fix and the celebratory meal, was a sufficient dallying that allowed us to get a good cold soaking rain on the ride down and into Freedom, our last town in Idaho.
Diane wanted to get out of her wet jersey, and the only thing open was the little post office. She popped in, greeted the postmaster, and exclaimed she needed to change into a dry jersey. He agreed to avert his eyes and she stepped into a corner out of his line of vision and changed tops. The rain had stopped by then, and we raced into Thayne, about five miles to the south.
Other exciting events of the day: Today, our granddaughter Leneah is one year old, and we had a brief Skype session with her before leaving Soda Springs. We completed 1000 bicycling miles of our journey. Thanks to Rob’s eagle eyes, we spotted our first moose!! Also, on her first attempt, Diane crossed a cattle guard on the narrow parallel bar, thus avoiding the bump bump bump of the perpendicular bars. And the motel owner in Shoshoni confirmed that we do have a reserved room which is not his living room floor!
Ciao,
Rob and Diane

That's an amazing picture of Mr. Moose! Leneah loves her blocks. Thanks again.
