Setting the Road on Fire - Beloit to Abilene

Some days you only need one photo.

Today brought some new scenes – a field of sunflowers, a bullfrog sitting in a muddy drainage pool, pheasants, and views from the county roads we were riding (the first time we traversed county roads on this trip).  We did another 80 today, slightly faster than yesterday, mainly due to non-adverse winds.  We even had a tail wind now and then.  This is also the first time we started out the day not knowing where we were going.  Literally.  The options were Salina, Abilene, and Manhattan.  No matter what, we had to start out on US 24.  Had the Salina bike shop come through with the armadillo tires we had special ordered, we would have gone there.   Abilene was our planned destination, but a call earlier in the week from Diane’s brother Frank, who lives in Overland Park, KS, about where we might meet up, had us thinking about Manhattan, where Frank and Angela’s daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter live.  I t would have been fun, but the timing was off, so we decided to stick with our plan. 

And once again, we had Mexican dinner.  After all, it is Friday night date night!! Diane and Rob
